Recognition in the workplace, whether directed toward fellow workers or customers or clients, is thus oftentimes spontaneously given as a way of making other people grow, which in turn contributes to the building of trust and durable relations of cooperation. These practices – precisely what are on offer in the coworking discourse discussed in Chapter 4 – may also transcend the boundaries of formally salaried work-hours; when colleagues meet in their free time to discuss work-related problems or just socialize, or when an employee volunteers to help a customer who has run into trouble during the weekend. Such forms of recognition grow relations of mutual respect and may also strengthen the reputation of the organization.
